Project Iqra · July–August 2026

Twenty-two students received support. Thank you for helping them continue.

Iqra means "read". In July and August, donors and partners helped us pay school fees for 20 students and raise support for two college students facing a family crisis. Here is what your support made possible.

What we did

School scholarships and urgent college fee support.

Planned support

Merit-cum-Need Scholarships

These scholarships help school students whose families are struggling to pay fees. We consider their academic progress alongside their financial circumstances, with priority given to students who have lost a parent.

Urgent support

Emergency Education Appeals

When a family crisis leaves a college student unable to pay their fees, we check the details and share an appeal with our supporters. Two such appeals raised ₹90,600 during these months.

What a scholarship means

When school fees become difficult to pay

This section explains how the programme works; it is not an individual student's story.

01
The need

A student may be doing well at school while their family struggles to pay the fees.

A bereavement or loss of income can leave a family with bills they cannot manage. We consider these circumstances alongside the student's academic progress.

02
The referral

Teachers and local contacts help students reach us.

Our team speaks with the family, reviews the student's records and contacts the school to confirm enrolment and the amount due.

03
The payment

The ₹5,000 scholarship is paid directly to the school.

We keep the school's receipt on record. The scholarship contributes towards fees; the amount a family owes may be higher.

04
The follow-up

We continue to follow the student's progress.

We protect students' privacy and can explain to donors how their contribution was used.

Urgent college fee appeals

You helped two college students with overdue fees.

Both students faced possible suspension because of unpaid fees. After checking their circumstances and outstanding dues, we asked our community for help.

What we believe

Students deserve the chance to continue their education.

Look beyond marks

We consider a student's effort and progress alongside the difficulties their family is facing.

Understand the family

Losing a parent or a household income can make school fees difficult to manage. We take those circumstances into account when deciding whom to support.

Respect student privacy

We do not publish the names of students receiving support. Donors can learn how their contribution was used without making a student's personal circumstances public.

How we arrange support

We check the need and pay scholarships directly to schools.

  1. A student is referred to usTeachers, neighbours and local contacts help us reach students who need support.
  2. We speak with the familyWe review academic records, household income, bereavement and any urgent fee deadlines.
  3. We consider the applicationWe consider academic progress and financial need together.
  4. The institution confirms the feeEnrolment and the payable amount are verified directly.
  5. We pay the scholarship to the schoolScholarships are paid straight to the school, which issues a receipt.

Questions about support

Before you give

What is the difference between a scholarship and an appeal?

Scholarships are planned: we select school students each cycle and pay ₹5,000 to their school. Appeals are urgent: when a student's studies are suddenly at risk, we verify the need and ask our community to help quickly.

Does the money go to the family?

Scholarships are paid directly to the school, which issues a receipt that we keep on record. Appeals are raised against verified, outstanding fees.

Do students need top marks?

No. We consider academic progress, effort and financial need together. Students do not have to top their class to be considered.

Will I know which student I supported?

We don't publish students' names, to protect their privacy. We can confirm how your contribution was used.

Can I get an 80G receipt?

Yes. Add your PAN when donating and we'll send an 80G receipt for eligible donations.

Thank you for helping 22 students. Help us reach the next student who needs support.
