• At Better Hope, we believe that mental health of students plays important role in their academic performance and overall growth.Through our Stationary Distribution Drives, we have been providing educational assistance in form of distributing stationary products, organizing quiz competition and organizing counseling sessions with mental health professionals to over 200 deserving students from marginalized backgrounds.(Multiple lockdowns and restricted high-speed internet in Kashmir during 2019-2021 resulted in frequent disruptions in formal schooling. Due t+`o such disruptions in schooling in Kashmir has had a significant impact on students’ mental health and schooling, with 60% of students reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression [A study by the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS)]. It has also made it difficult for students to access mental health services, leading to a 10% drop in school enrolment (A study by the World Bank). To address the challenges, it is important to provide access to mental health services and ensure quality education. Since August 2021, BETTER HOPE has been conducting a counselling session for such students. Along with this we also carry out stationery drive at govt schools in Kashmir. We had organized our first such “Stationary Distribution Drive & Counselling Session” at Madina Public School of Noori Pora village, Tehsil Pattan, District Baramulla. “Routines of children have been disrupted and families find it overwhelming at times to engage with their children, who are confined to their homes for long periods” said Dr Syed Karrar, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) in Srinagar, Kashmir’s largest city
